"Last Vampyre" is just as you say. "The Hound of Baskervilles" is OK but not their best either...the last couple seasons had problems :(
But yes, "The Sign of Four"'s among the best in that series; I also entirely recommend "The Blue Carbuncle" and "The Red-headed League" ;)
