It is a superb example of a combination of an interior of a room , curtain draperies and a typical late 17 th century fashionably dressed couple . She is holding a fan and wearing a fine lace collar , he with fancy shoes and walking cane . The significance of the empty gilt frame probably means that they are waiting for their portrait to be painted .
