KOONS PUPPY BACK IN BLOOM
It's become known as Bilbao's mascot during its relatively short residency, and now Jeff Koons' Puppy sculpture is back to its blooming best.
The giant topiary artwork depicts a West Highland terrier made from a living flower bed, but like any garden the sculpture needs an overhaul every now and again.
Scaffolding covering the entire sculpture has just been taken down after a two week operation to replant all its flowers.
At 13 metres high, the sculpture contains around 70,000 flowers embedded in a large steel internal structure. It is one of the world-renowned highlights of the northern Spanish city's Guggenheim Museum and has been installed outside the attraction since 1997.
Modern day Pop Artist Koons first created his Puppy for a temporary exhibit in Germany. It was moved to Sydney before taking up its residency in Bilbao, but has also travelled to New York since.
